Did you know #3

Did you know that if you win too much at the track, you may be ruled off that track.  In a couple of months a couple of gamblers at a Hazel Park Harness track were ruled off for winning over $600,000 in a couple of months.

Once they failed to contribute their fair share to the track, out they went.  But in the past, they might have got a free pair of lead boots and a trip to the river.  So I suppose they got off lucky.

Fall Racing Class

Since November 14th the Sire GSV average for new horses entering my GSV database has fallen to 68.33 from 68.75 and the Dam GSV to 67.24 from 67.52.

Thus, the GSV has fallen from 68.14 to 67.78 for the new horses racing in the last month.

Of course, many of the horses racing in the last month were racing in the summer, but I thought it significant that the new horses to begin racing come from lower class stock.

Did you know, #2

Did you know that in 1965 that many trainers in the U.S. were charging $12/day, yet it cost those same trainers up to $13.38 per diem?

In such cases, the trainer cannot receive adequate compensation for his daily efforts, then he has no other recource except the exploitation of the horse.  According to Margaret Donnelly (July 17, 1965, Thoroughbred Record), the horse who is capable of 2 starts per month will find himself in 4 or 5 races trying to earn that extra 10% that the horse may get by running.

Greer Lynn

Greer Lynn out of the golden producer Roll Over Baby broke his maiden today in a MSW race at Fair Grounds.  All of her foals have been talented to some degree.  This matchmaker related mating seems to at least meet the standards of the rest of the family.

Another Great Name #3

And D' Point Is

Okie Time

Okie Time became the  5th SW  that was a recommended Matchmaker mating for 2008.  There are 9 stakeplaced runners this year, also.

1966 and Passes for Race Patrons

In 1966, Louisiana was roundly criticized for giving out so many passes that mostly new patrons at the track actually paid to get in.

Some tracks actually thought that the by curtailing passes, they would increase attendance at the track.

Yes, and maybe the reason people go to the track is to rid themselves of their money.

If North American Race Tracks Don't Make Changes,

I propose a boycott of all race tracks on the first Saturday of May by all bettors and all spectators that wish to rise up with us against them.

We will all still be able to watch the Derby on TV so there is very, very little downside to our boycott, especially since most bettors like to dodge big crowds on only certain days a year.
